The American Flag

See the waving of our flag—
   Heroic flag!
What a patriotic story of this gentle, simple rag.
How it stiffens our resolve;
For no problem it can’t solve!
How it gushes and it rushes,
For our soul it does enflame—
A pure passion for The Cause:
Our homeland’s gentle reign.
Oh, what glorious, awesome might
Of our nation’s righteous fight!
How it crashes, and it smashes
All the devils that delight
To dare defy the somber sight
Of peace and Truth shining bright—
    It waves!
It waves majestically in the light!
It waves, waves, waves, waves, waves, waves, waves.
Our flag waves, with rapt delight.
It waves in red moonlight…

Hear the marching with our flag—
    Our battle flag!
We go to war whilst Great men brag.
Soldiers sing and carry on!
There’s laughter and there’s epic song.
Heads high, hearts near touch the sky—
The War-to-Be shall right all wrongs!
The fanfare is contagious, no?
The warfare paraded like a show—
Our country faces a fiercesome foe;
And we shall not back down!
Our wrists shall not be bound.
This cloth not dare unwound—
    Our flag!
Our waving symbol—
Such epic truth we’ve surely found!
    It waves!
A pole set firmly in the ground:
It waves, waves, waves, waves, waves, waves, waves.
Our flag in the wind!—it sounds
As men arrest the battle mound…

Observe the killing by our flag—
   Blood-soaked flag!
Dare you try to count the fallen and their tags?
So youthful once their gentle faces;
Teeth just barely out of braces—
Their faces crushed!
    Their mouths now broken;
Their bodies dust,
    Their hate awoken!
It is such a glorious new scene:
This deadly, gruesome, grimsome glean.
The world is broken, but yet it teams—
   With hate!
Boys lie in their sick and mutely scream.
Red hate—it shimmers and it steams.
   It waves!
No ends, just savage, righteous means.
    It waves!
Dear god, it waves and waves!
It waves and waves and waves and waves.
It waves, waves, waves, waves, waves, waves, waves.
Our flag waves, on shining hill it beams!
The ground strewn with broken boys it seems—
    All dead!
The flag waves on…
      Unheard, unseen.
The flag,
       Stained red,
           Waves on as soldiers dream.

Sean Dempsey moved to New Hampshire as one of the first 100 ‘Free Staters.’ He unabashedly believes in the US Constitution and the message and principles enshrined by its founders. Sean believes the country in which we live needs to re-examine what Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, and Adams believed (and were willing to die for). The message of freedom is not a tag line or something to be embarrassed by, but is sacrosanct and more important than ever!
